Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a medical condition that includes widespread pain and fatigue.  It is thought to be caused by overactive nerves within the body, though medical science has not found a direct cause for the condition.  It is usually diagnosed by a finding of pain with no other known cause.  Regardless of the fact that it is poorly understood at this time, fibromyalgia causes people to have severe pain, miss days from work or be unable to work at all, be unable to enjoy the things they did prior to developing the condition, and feel severely tired much of the time.  There is hope that medical science will find a very effective cure in the future.

In the meanwhile, there are many things that people with fibromyalgia can do to help themselves.  They can get more rest, although one of the issues they may face is difficulty sleeping.  In fact, studies have shown that healthy college students will develop symptoms that mimic fibromyalgia after being deprived of deep restful sleep for no more than three weeks and that the symptoms will resolve once they are allowed to sleep deeply again.  This is one of the areas in which hypnotherapy can be extremely useful.  In a deeply relaxed state, the unconscious mind can be helped to remember how to go to sleep and to sleep deeply.  The habit of sleep can be regained, which will significantly reduce the other symptoms.

Of course, a person who has fibromyalgia, in contrast to the healthy young volunteers, will not suddenly wake up from a few good nights’ sleeps with no symptoms.  We also work with the pain, helping to reduce the experience of pain significantly or removing it altogether.  Any other symptoms that the individual has will also be addressed, usually with excellent results.

Because hypnotherapy for fibromyalgia is an interactive series of sessions, it is only available as online sessions or in-person sessions.  Some people with fibromyalgia benefit form recordings or videos of hypnotherapy for deep sleep or pain management.  You can order these under the General Hypnotherapy heading.
